Badgers power past Bulldogs in nonleague dual

SANDPOINT — Bonners Ferry won seven matches by pin to earn a 60-27 win over Sandpoint in a wrestling dual Thursday night at Les Rogers Court.

Badger head coach Conrad Garner said he was pleased with the way his team wrestled overall.

“The drills we’ve been practicing, they did them tonight,” said Garner. “We were pretty vicious on the half nelsons.”

Matt Lockey (220 pounds) and Tanner McNelly (106) registered pins for the Bulldogs, and Peyton Dillon (120) scored a solid 6-2 win. Justin Pepperdine (182) and Peter Dang (113) won by forfeit for Sandpoint’s other points.

“We are riddled with inexperience. Despite the inexperience, Lewis (Dunton), Damon (Rodriguez) and Brandon (Williams) battled like guys with a lot more experience,” said Bulldogs coach Mike Randles. “We’d like to win, but right now it’s just a work in progress. We just ask them to go out and battle.”

Both Lockey and McNelly added pins in two exhibition mathes after the dual was over.

The Bulldogs are at the Cheney Tournament on Saturday. The Sandpoint JV hosts a big tournament, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday at SHS.
