RATHDRUM — Kacie Derby had 11 points and eight rebounds as Lakeland battled past Sandpoint 49-41 in 4A Inland Empire League girls basketball action Thursday night at Hawk Court.

Sandpoint (6-7, 0-2 4A IEL) jumped out to a 10-2 lead, but Lakeland (8-6, 1-1) switched to a zone and held the Bulldogs to just four points the rest of the half. Sandpoint pulled to within two points in the third quarter, but the Hawks made enough plays to hang on to the win.

“I thought we did a good job of battling the second half of the third quarter and into the fourth quarter,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “It was a good win for us.”

Murray finished with nine points, four rebounds, eight steals and five assists for Lakeland.

Hailey Olin scored 17 points, Maggie Kirscher 16 for Sandpoint.

“I thought they played hard and rebounded well, and Olin and Kirscher gave us fits,” Seymour said of the Bulldogs.

Kirscher pulled down nine rebounds and Olin six, and Jordan Speelmon chipped in with five points in defeat.
