Bulldogs fall to Rams on Senior Night

| January 11, 2012 6:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Justin Pepperdine (182 pounds), Josh Allen (160) and Peyton Dillon (120) celebrated Senior night with convincing wins, but it wasn’t enough as Riverside earned a 46-28 win in a nonleague wrestling dual Tuesday night at Sandpoint High School.

The trio, along with fellow seniors Troy Goodman, Jack Carleton, Damen Rodriguez and manager Laurel Presser, were honored with their parents before the match.

Sandpoint coach Mike Randles praised the hard work of the senior class.

“It’s a group of guys who don’t have much experience, but have huge hearts,” said Randles of his seniors, also praising the wrestling of a couple of underclassmen. “Josh Travers went out and battled his tail off, and Lewis (Dunton) won with a lot of work in the off season.”

Dunton and Allen each registered first-period pins, Pepperdine a third-period pin, Dillon a convincing major decision and Tanner McNelly won by forfeit for the Bulldog points.

Sandpoint assistant coach Steve Miller was coaching against his cousin, Riverside head coach Randy Miller. Steve’s uncle Ray Miller, a former SHS wrestling coach and Sandpoint mayor, coached both Steve and Randy as youth wrestlers.

Sandpoint will face Nampa and Columbia in a tri-match at Lakeland on Thursday.
