Mayor's wife avoids jail in DUI case

SANDPOINT — The wife of Oldtown’s mayor pleaded guilty Thursday to driving under the influence.

Beverly Mae Orr entered the plea in an agreement with the state which dismissed additional charges of striking an unattended vehicle and leaving the scene of a crash, court records show.

Orr had no remarks to the court before the sentence was imposed.

Judge Barbara Buchanan ordered Orr to serve 16 hours of the sheriff’s labor program in lieu of jail time. Orr was fined $600 and her driver’s license was suspended for 90 days. She was placed on unsupervised probation for two years and ordered to undergo substance abuse counseling.

Orr was granted a withheld judgment, which means she can petition to have the criminal charge blotted from her record upon successful completion of all of her court-ordered obligations.

Orr, the 58-year-old wife of Mayor Lonnie Orr, was charged with the three misdemeanors following a collision on East Valley Street in Oldtown last May. Orr was later found at her home and her breath-alcohol level was measured at 0.13, according to court documents.
