Wampus Cats split North Star League doubleheader with Knights
PLUMMER — The North Star League girls game was tied at halftime, then the visiting Wampus Cats outscored the Knights 34-10 in a decisive second half to clinch a tie for the North Star League title.
Brocklynn Thornton had another monster game with 12 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals, and helped key a big second half turnaround as the Wampus Cats (9-5, 6-0 NSL) had heavy legs from the previous night’s game against Superior.
“We had a little big of fatigue from the fast-paced game last night. We were really sluggish in the first half with poor decision making,” said Cats head coach Dexter Vogel, who switched to man-to-man defense at halftime. “We went back to simple, and it worked.”
Dimi Kailang scored a game-high 16 points and Tess Vogel added 10 points and seven boards for the Cats, who remain unbeaten in league play after shooting 13-24 from the field in the second half.
“They went into a switching style of defense, and we didn’t react very well to that,” said Lakeside coach Ron Miller, whose Knights trailed by two points midway through the third quarter, only to see the Wampus Cats score on six straight possessions to pull away. “We went flat offensively, and they shot really well in the second half.”
Shannon Miller scored 11 points for Lakeside (6-8, 3-2).

n Boudousquie leads Wampus Cats in defeat
PLUMMER — Greg Boudousquie was solid inside with 12 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, but cold shooting in the second and fourth quarters proved costly as Clark Fork fell 64-36 to Lakeside on Tuesday night in North Star League boys basketball in Plummer.
Stillman Berkley added eight points and four assists, and Axel Anderson pulled down six rebounds for the Wampus Cats (2-8, 0-3 NSL), who played the Knights even during the first and third quarters.
“When we run our offense, when we get it inside, that’s when everything opens up,” said Cats coach Corey Vogel, who felt his team played well in stretches. “I’m proud of the boys, we fought hard.”
Johnathon Nomee scored 13 points and the host Knights (9--5, 4-0 NSL) outscored the Wampus Cats 19-2 in the second quarter.
“Clark Fork, they hustled their butts off,” said Knights coach Bill Brebner. “They won the first and third quarters, that’s for sure.”
