SANDPOINT — A two-day preliminary hearing is set for a 26-year-old man accused of kidnapping, raping and murdering a former Bonner County woman in California.

The hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to justify trying Jason Ross Gilley for the killing of Dalene Carlson is set for March in San Joaquin County, according to The Stockton Record.

Gilley remains held in jail on charges of first-degree murder with aggravating circumstances.

The aggravating factors make Gilley eligible for the death penalty, although prosecutors have not yet indicated if they will seek the ultimate penalty against him.

Carlson, 23, was last seen in the company of Gilley in Stockton in August of last year. Her remains were discovered in a cornfield in Escalon two months after she went missing.
