Let's keep talking but let's keep it civil

| January 31, 2012 6:00 AM

I’m new to Idaho as of November of last year having moved here recently from Des Moines, Iowa, with my wife. I have to say I’m very happy to be here in Sandpoint and get to meet the many nice people here and I look forward to a great future here both socially and businesswise.

However, I did want to write and express my surprise when I opened up the opinion page of this fine paper and saw the very strong opinions felt by citizens all around Bonner County. I, myself, am no stranger to controversy having participated in the Iowa Straw Poll, being on radio shows, and speaking at conventions, but I am (pleasantly) surprised at the controversy here in a smaller town like Sandpoint. There seem to be people of all political beliefs right here in northern Idaho; and that is a good thing. I am excited to participate in the discourse here in Sandpoint and look forward to many different viewpoints. I come from a “purple” state that has that same diversity and I see it right here in this town.

Let us keep it civil and welcoming to people of all walks of life by putting our best foot forward for newcomers like myself. I welcome all discussion and am encouraged by the active business, social, and political community. I’m sure I’ll see you around town, and thanks for reading!
