Animal shelter has great staff, volunteers
I must write you after reading Sunday’s letter to the editor concerning the Panhandle Animal Shelter. There’s a lot of things I don’t know about the running of the shelter, but I will tell you what I DO know.
My husband and I have made many visits to the shelter to look for a dog. Sometimes we didn’t find what we were looking for, sometimes we adopted. At no time were conditions as described in the letter. Over the years we have adopted five dogs. Each time the staff was very helpful. Since we have a cat, it was important to us that the new dog was cat-friendly and either the dog we were considering had been cat tested or it was quickly done when we asked.
Anytime we had questions about the known background of any of the dogs, the staff quickly helped us.
The last time we were looking for a dog we asked to be put on a list in case a particular breed of dog came in. We received a phone call which resulted in us adopting the wonderful dog we have now.
This is what I DO know about the thrift store: Since I’m a Monday volunteer there I can tell you that we have a great manager. I am very proud of our store. Not a Monday goes by that I don’t hear compliments about the cleanliness and quality of the store inventory. Two women, carrying their purchases, were leaving the store recently when I heard one of them say, “1 love this store!”
I am proud to say I’m happy to be involved in a small way with the Panhandle Animal Shelter.
