Why are community's Hawthorn trees dying?

As I walk around Sandpoint I have noticed how many, many of our Hawthorn trees seem to be dying. I looked online and they may have “fire blight.” As it is a shame to lose so many beautiful trees. Perhaps our tree expert Mr. Drinkard could look at them and find a solution to save them.
