Local records ace at Elks Monday golf league

SANDPOINT — Local golfer Kevin Monahan dropped his second career hole-in-one to highlight the action at the Elks Monday Mixed Golf League on July 9.

Monahan, 58, used an eight iron to ace the 148 yard hole No. 1, adding to his résumé after producing the rare feat four years ago at the Coeur d’Alene Resort.

Monahan, who carries an 18 handicap, was going to hit a seven iron, but changed clubs after an Albeni Falls 4 Guys teammate was long with an eight iron. The club change proved a wise choice.

“We thought it hit the pin,” described Monahan, who spent more than $200 on drinks after the round, honoring the time-honored golfing tradition for those lucky enough to hit a hole-in-one. “We didn’t know it went in until we got up there, and it was leaning against the pin.”
