Fugitive inmate turns himself in

BOISE (AP) — A state prison inmate who walked away from a job site in Nampa is back in custody after turning himself in to authorities in Coeur d’Alene.

Idaho Department of Correction Spokesman Jeff Ray says 43-year-old Richard Henry Michalies showed up at the Kootenai County Jail Friday afternoon. Michalies was assigned to the Nampa Community Work Center and was reported missing Thursday.

He is serving a 12-year sentence for forgery convictions in Bonner and Nez Perce counties and was on track to be released from prison in June 2015.

Michalies, 43, was arrested on suspicion of forgery by Ponderay Police in 2003, according to the Idaho Supreme Court Data Repository. He pleaded guilty to two counts later that year and received a six- to 12-year sentence.

Earlier in the 2003, Michalies was charged in Nez Perce County with two counts of forgery and illegal possession of a financial transaction card.

The forgery counts were later dismissed as part of a plea agreement, the data repository indicates. He was given a one- to three-year sentence on the surviving charge.

Michalies was scheduled to be released in 2015, according to the Idaho Department of Correction.
