Man dies in tractor rollover accident

SAGLE — A Bonner County man was killed after overturning his tractor while mowing grass on Monday morning.

The man, said to be in the 60s, was not identified by authorities. The accident is being investigated by the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office, according to Robert Webber, chief of the Sagle Fire District.

It happened at about 10:40 a.m. on Camp Bay Road.

“It looked like he was mowing the grass on the side of the road with a lawnmower attachment to the back of his tractor,” said Webber.

The man was reportedly side-hilling an embankment when the machine toppled over, pinning him. The man reportedly knew the ground well, leading to suspicions that a medical event may have precipitated the accident.

“We don’t know if a medical event, like a heart attack, caused that,” Bonner EMS spokesman Bob Abbott said, referring to the loss of control of the vehicle.

Abbott said the man died at the scene, prior to the arrival of paramedics.'
