SANDPOINT — Casey Randles went 8-0, and Adam Weindl and Jonathnn McCormick each went 8-2 to lead the emerging Bulldog wrestling team to a 6-2 record at the Wildcat Wrestling Camp at Columbia High School in Nampa.

The Bulldogs finished third in their 12 team pool in the modified dual format, and all nine wrestlers in attendance posted a .500 record or better. The camp drew nearly 300 kids from 24 teams, and coach Mike Randles called the camp the best he’s seen in more than 20 years.

For a second year in a row, eighth grader Casey Randles posted an undefeated record (8-0) while competing against high school competition at team camp. Two of Randles’ wins came against state placers from Washington and Idaho.

Relying on a growing arsenal of technique, junior and team captain Lewis Dunton continued to find his stride, winning seven matches and losing three. Joining Dunton in making big gains was junior Chris Bunty. Bunty, who as a freshman competed at 189 pounds, posted an 8-3 record while competing in the 152 pound class.

Junior returning state placer Adam Weindl’s losses came against a fellow returning state placer, while competing up two weight classes.

Randles said the most surprising performance of the camp was turned in by junior Jonathon McCormick. McCormick, who has limited high school experience as a result of injury, posted an 8-2 record while competing at 175 pounds.

Relying on an explosive double leg, David Combs collected three wins against three losses. Joining Combs with similar records were junior Coltin Reddding and eighth grader Scout Nash. Redding (4-4) earned all of his wins by way of fall. Nash, who has competed in more than 30 matches this spring, collected a big win for the Bulldogs when they upended Eagle High School of Meridian. Despite trailing 8-1, Nash continued to battle on his way to a third period pin.

Also collecting an important pin for the Bulldogs was sophomore Tyler Brown (3-3). Brown sealed the Bulldog’s victory over perennial 3A power American Falls with a first period pin.
