Schuette, Pfeifer lead winners for 2012 Jacey's Race

Jacey’s Race 2012 was a huge success, with 828 runners registering.

Crossing the 5K finish line were 481 runners of the 550 registered. The 1K fun run also brought in 278 runners, a record for Sandpoint.

Of the 21 teams entered in the race, the team award went to Team Ashley, with more than 40 registered participants crossing the finish line. Runners from across the Inland Northwest, as well as from Montana, Oregon, California, Iowa, Virginia and across the border in Canada and even from France, came out to support this event.

More than $23,000 was raised, and once expenses are paid, 65 percent of proceeds will be distributed to the families of Ashley Halliday, 21; Hieron Kline,11; Drake Haskins,13; and Liam Marks, 9. The remainder will be split between the pediatric department at Bonner General Hospital, and Community Cancer Services, with the intention to benefit local children and their families.

The overall female winners were: Heidi Schuette, 20:19, Athol; Katie Cox, 20:37, Sandpoint; and Tami Hicks, 22:14, Cocolalla. The overall male winners were Danny Pfeifer,16:38, Cocolalla; Sam Levora,16:52, Sandpoint; and Karl Haakenson,18:02 from Hayden.
