Folks stepped up, made sprinklers possible

| July 24, 2012 7:00 AM

A few weeks ago I wrote a letter to the editor asking for monetary assistance to fund the installation of a sprinkler system for the infield grass of the ball field.

You should have been on this end of the response to really be aware how the citizens of this area will step up to the plate, so to speak. Within one week I had the funds in hand or committed to bring this project to completion.

Donations came from a number of areas, including a gentleman who was not raised here but remembered his days in Little League and then there was the lady who believed she had graduated from the sixth grade in the second year of Northside School’s existence, but we won’t go into the age thing. Then there was the lady at Relay for Life that said in her note with a donation which read “You didn’t think you could flirt with me like that and NOT get compensated, did you?” In all respect to my wife, this lady will remain nameless. And there was the lady who called and said she would make up the difference from what was collected and the total amount. Also a special thanks to the people in my office, Century 21 RiverStone, for their assistance. Names have been left out to protect the innocent. (I heard that on TV).

Construction was scheduled to start in mid-July. If donors are interested, when the system is complete we could all meet at the school, stand in the infield and then turn the sprinkler system on so that they could personally see and feel the results.

Again, thanks to everyone throughout the project. My grandson should be proud.

Go, Huskies.
