Eliminating guns won't end violence

| July 26, 2012 7:00 AM

Inevitably gun control is certain to be a major topic of discussion in light of the shooting in Aurora, Colo.

Those well meaning proponents of gun control always take advantage of incidents like this.

The facts have no influence on them whatsoever. They cannot accept that mentally ill people are the killers, not guns.

Guns are only one of a multitude of tools that can be used to kill. An automobile is such a tool when driven into a crowd. A bus would be an even more effective tool. A machete is an extremely devastating tool when used as a weapon. The thought of somebody walking into a kindergarten class with a machete is horrifying. They are easy to make from a car spring.

Just think, if all the guns in the world were destroyed tomorrow people would immediately start making them in their garage. The technology is so simple that millions know how to make a gun with the simplest of tools.

Believe me, it’s easy. The chance of an incident like this happening is on the order of winning a lottery. It just isn’t likely. Even if all the controls were put on guns that have been proposed somebody like Breivik in Norway would find a way to get one.

Breivik was only able to kill so many people because of gun control. He had hours to do it. The nearest armed people needed to stop him were hours away. Foolish gun control killed them.
