Breakfast set to fund tourney trip
With the community’s help, Abraham Collett hopes to attend the IBO World Archery Tournament in Seven Springs, Pa., next month.
To help the Clark Fork resident attend the tournament, a huckleberry breakfast will be held at Mom’s Cafe, 308 E. Fourth Ave., Clark Fork, from 7 a.m.-noon on Saturday. The menu includes all-you-can-eat huckleberry pancakes, sausage patties, scramble eggs, and coffee or tea.
The cost is $10 per person.
All proceeds go to Collett to get him to the tournament, cover lodging expenses and food costs, said Dannette VanderWall, owner of the cafe and event organizer.
Collett, who has been an avid archer since he was 8 years old, was invited to attend the tournament after earning high scores at the regional tournament in Issaquah, Wash. Archers are only able to attend the World Archery Tournament by invitation with a recommendation from a regional tour body.
Collett began competing at 8 years old in local meets in Homosassa, Fla., where he spent his youth. He graduated Clark Fork High School in 1999 and began competing again last year in all the tournaments he could find — and taking his 5-year-old son, who also competes, along with him.
“We’d like to invite the community to join us and help this outstanding young man and father represent the great Northwest at one of the most prestigious events besides the Olympics,” said VanderWall.
