Sandpoint fall sports season ready to get under way

| July 31, 2012 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The calendar will turn to August tomorrow, which means the 2012 fall sports season is right around the corner.

But before area athletes can pop the pads, pound the pavement or bend it like Beckham, they must have a physical and be registered for their respective sports. Bearing that in mind, a host of important dates are on tap.

• Wednesday, Aug. 1: Reduced price sports physicals will be offered from 6-8 p.m. at the Pine Grove Medical Building (next to Bonner General Hospital at 606 No. 3rd Ave.). The physicals cost just $10. Bring your immunization records and a parent, and immunizations will also be offered.

This is the only time of year the discount is offered, so athletes competing in a winter or spring sports should also attend. All 9th and 11th grade and transfer athletes must have a physical after May 1, 2012 to compete.

• Monday, Aug. 6: Both boys and girls SHS soccer registration will be held from 7-9 a.m. at Sandpoint High School. The cheer and dance team registrations will also be held at the same time.

• Tuesday, Aug. 7: First day of boys soccer practice.

• Wednesday, Aug. 8: Football registration, for all levels, from 7-10 a.m. at Sandpoint High School. The SHS volleyball, cross country and swim teams will also register at this time.

• Wednesday, Aug. 8: First day of SHS girls soccer practice.

• Friday, Aug. 10: First day of practice for SHS football, volleyball and cross country.

n Monday, Aug. 20: Meet the Bulldogs at War Memorial Field, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
