Washington Elementary defends district track championship

| June 5, 2012 7:00 AM

CLARK FORK — For the second straight year, Washington Elementary scored enough points to claim the first place trophy at the LPOSD Elementary School Track Meet at Clark Fork High School.

The energy was abundant as more than 300 athletes from grades 3-6 took part in races, relays, long jumps and softball throws. The stands were full of screaming kids and parents, and one runner got plenty of laughs by waving to friends as she raced by.

Clark Fork teacher and meet director K.C. MacDonald said he is always amazed by the school spirit and pride displayed at the meet, which is only two years old but hugely popular.

“My favorite part of the day is watching and hearing all those kids in the bleachers cheering on the runners that go by,” said MacDonald, who wished to give special thanks to the school district, LPOSD Transportation Dept., LPOSD Maintenance Dept., Superintendent Cvitanich, CFHS students and staff, Sheriff Wheeler, Clark Fork Ambulance, Clark Fork Pantry, PAFE, Louis and Patti Speelmon and Frank and Jan Hammersley. “Also hearing from the elementary coaches and parents about how hard working Clark Fork student helpers are is pretty special too. We couldn’t do it without our kids stepping up to help.”
