Rosholt injures knee in loss

ARLINGTON, Texas — A pair of former Sandpoint wrestling standouts and current pro Mixed Martial Arts fighters climbed into the cage again on Saturday during the XKO 15 at the Gym in Arlington, with mixed results.

Former UFC fighter Jake Rosholt faced Matthew Thompson in the main event before a packed house, which included UFC legend Randy Couture.

Rosholt, a member of Team Takedown Fighters, saw his road back to the UFC hit a major snag as he fell victim to a debilitating knee injury at the hands of the unheralded Thompson, tapping out at 4:16 in the opening round.

Rosholt (12-4) was firmly in control of the fight from the opening bell, using his wrestling and striking to basically bully Thompson (17-9) for much of the opening round. However, Thompson would make a number of submission attacks to Rosholt’s legs.

He finally locked up a knee bar, as Rosholt screamed in agony. The severity of Rosholt’s injury was not announced, and his fans were happy to see him walking, albeit with a noticeable limp, under his own power at the end of the night.

Fellow Team Takedown fighter and former Idaho state wrestling champion Chris Feist ran his record to a perfect 4-0 with a lightning quick submission.

Feist made short work of Josh Strahan in the card’s opening fight. Strahan was caught in a guillotine while trying to shoot in for a takedown and was promptly choked out by Feist, with the official time of the submission at 28 seconds in the opening round.
