Newspaper slighted students' achievement

| June 10, 2012 7:00 AM

In my limited understanding of the newspaper business, the most important stories are given priority by placing them above the fold of the paper so that the headline can be read when the newspaper is sitting in the newsstand. In that context, it would seem to me that “Clark Fork High School earns national recognition” would be given priority over “Council revamps meeting schedule.”

The story about Clark Fork High School making the U.S. New and World Report list of top schools in the nation is astounding; and, given that they have made this list five years in a row, it is even more astounding. The matter of a meeting schedule change was important for citizen information; but the achievement by Clark Fork High School of a distinction being shared by only 13 percent of schools nationwide is cause for celebration.

Congratulations, Clark Fork High School.
