Elks B and B Tournament to honor past local golfers

| June 12, 2012 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — If you’d like to pay homage to a couple of longtime local golfers while also helping to improve the Elks Golf Course, don’t miss the 3rd Annual B and B Tournament on Saturday, June 23, at 9 a.m. at the Elks.

The Sandpoint Elks Lodge No. 1376 of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks established the tournament in 2010 as a memorial to two longtime members of the Elks and avid golfers who passed away in that year.

The “B and B” tournament is named for Bobby Moore and Bob Hess, both of whom were deeply involved in Elks activities, including the maintenance and improvement of the Elks Golf Course. They both loved the game and were regular fixtures on the course and in the club house and it seemed that “everybody knew them and loved them,” according to golf course manager Tom Tharp.

At the suggestion of their families, the proceeds from the annual tournament will be used to continue the work of improving the golf course as Bob and Bobby had done for so long.

As an example, in 2010 the fairways were irrigated and the entryway was widened and in 2011 tee box No. 6 was rebuilt with two tiers and 20 Arborvitae, and the sixth green was enlarged and sloped for a greater challenge.

The B and B tournament is open to the public, for both men and women, and golfers can enter as a four-person team or as a single to be placed on a team. It is a four person scramble format, which makes it fun for golfers of all skill levels to compete.

The entry fee is $50 per person for 18 hole greens fees, a sack lunch and prizes. All proceeds will be used for improvements to the golf course.
