Paper must apologize for lack of Memorial Day coverage
The Daily Bee need to apologize to all the community for not covering the memorial services in Sandpoint on Memorial Day. On the Friday before Memorial Day, I and several volunteers went to Pinecrest Memorial Park and Lakeview Memorial Park and placed more than 800 flags at the head stones of veterans.
There were headstones from the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and right up to the present conflicts. There were flags on large flagpoles as well. In one way, it was a beautiful sight but in another it was very sad.
There was a service at each park on Memorial Day which was headed by Bill Stevens of the Veterans of Foreign Wars as master of ceremonies followed by the Rev. Stanley Norman, retired Coast Guard; speaker Cary Kelly, retired colonel U.S. Marine Corps; a speaker from the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Honor Guard from the Marine Corps League.
The Daily Bee is a Bonner County newspaper and should make every attempt to cover local news and events. You had an article on the front page of some services in Coeur d’Alene.
I would like to see more local news as my subscription renewal is in question.

Editor’s note: No information on the dates, times or locations of the celebration was submitted to the Daily Bee newsroom. We have nothing but the utmost respect for our nation’s veterans and we’ve covered the event in the past and would have covered it this year as well. No disrespect was intended.
