CLARK FORK — A Clark Fork man was killed after being thrown from his pickup truck in a crash on Sunday morning south of town.

Idaho State Police identified the victim as Kelvin E. Stevens, 60.

Stevens, state police said, was westbound on River Road when he began to overtake another pickup ahead of him. Stevens’ sideswiped the vehicle during the passing maneuver and went off the shoulder. Stevens over-corrected back onto the road and his Ford F-150 overturned.

Stevens, who was not wearing a seat belt, was flung from his vehicle as it went off the shoulder and crashed into an embankment, according to ISP.

The occupants of the Dodge Dakota Stevens sideswiped — driver Brandon M. Gerstenberger, 22, of Sandpoint, and passenger Vincent C. Thompson, 20, of Clark Fork — were wearing seat belts and were not injured, state police said.

The crash happened at about 9:30 a.m. about four miles south of Clark Fork.
