Trio to play in state All-Star game

| March 14, 2012 7:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — The best boys and girls basketball players in Idaho will be coming together for a fun night of hoops, as the Gem State is divided into half for a night.

A trio of local players were selected to play in the 9th annual North-South All-Star High School Basketball games at North Idaho College, on Saturday, March 17, as the votes have been tabulated and the teams are set.

Players were chosen by a selection committee of sportswriters and broadcasters from throughout the state. The committee selected 12 players, two alternates and a coach for the four teams.

Sandpoint’s Jackson Olin and Maggie Kirscher each made the North team, and Clark Fork’s Brocklynn Thornton was also voted to participate. Thornton is the only player from a 1A school on the North girls roster.

The event will be a doubleheader format with high school seniors playing on teams representing northern and southern Idaho. The competition begins with the girls game at 1 p.m. followed by the boys game at 3:30 p.m. The event will include a three-point shooting contest with the girls competing against the boys and a slam-dunk contest between the games.

Both games, plus the 3-point and dunk contest, will be web cast live on “www.IdahoSports.com.” Games will be broadcast by Mark Browning and Paul Kingsbury.
