Sharks shine at Shamrock Shake Up swim meet

SPOKANE — A host of Sandpoint Sharks posted top five finishes last weekend at the Shamrock Shake Up swim meet at Whitworth University in Spokane.

Emily Deitz won the 200 back and placed fourth in three other events, Logan Sanborn finished second in the 400 IM and third in the 500 free and 200 fly, and Payton Bokowy finished second in the 200 free, 100 free, 50 free and 200 back. The three teamed with Kaitlan Ward to finish second in the 200 free relay.

Because this was the first meet after the championship season it was a working meet for the Sharks.

“I signed the kids up for as many events as they could do,” said Sharks coach Mike Brosnahan, noting Sanborn swam in 14 events and flirted with some personal bests. “For a working meet she was our Superstar along with Emily Deitz, who dropped time in almost all of her 13 events. This swim meet showed the strength and character of our team.”

Briana Brosnahan was sick but came out to swim with her relay team on Sat and Sun because she didn’t want to let her team down and scratch. Brosnahan teamed with Kayla Remsen, Chandler Sanborn and Kate Bokowy to finish third in the 200 relay, and with Bokowy, Sanborn and Sierra Speakman to finish third in the 200 medley.

The relay team of Sarah Casey, Olline Smith, Kerrancy Deprez and Remsen finished second in the 100 medley relay.

Kate Matlosz had a strong meed, finishing third in the 50 breast among four top five finishes. Ward finished third in the 200 back, Remsen was fourth in the 25 back, Genevieve Price was seventh in the 200 breast, Chandler Sanborn was eighth in the 100 fly and Melina Smith was eighth in the 50 back to round out the girls top 10 placers.

Miles Luce was sixth in the 200 free and seventh in the 100 back, and Conner Matlosz was ninth in the 100 breast to lead a small boys team.
