LEWISTON — David Currie fired an 87 and Jared Presnell a 91 to lead the Sandpoint boys golf team at the Lewiston Invitational, held at Bryden Canyon Golf Club on Monday.

Overall the Bulldogs dropped a whopping 34 strokes as a team from the previous week in Clarkston, posting a score of 380 under sunny and welcome conditions.

Bulldogs head coach Tom Tharp had high praise for the play of Presnell, who dropped 14 strokes from the previous week, and Noah Faude, who dropped 15 strokes en route to a 99.

“I’m really proud of the boys. They’ve been working hard up there at the nets,” said Tharp, who anticipates more improvement once the team can start logging some actual course time. “I anticipate them bringing these scores down when they play.”

Case in point was Christian Cook, who carded a 103, which included a 10 on a tough hole. Nate Loutzenhiser shot a 115 to round out the Bulldog scores.

Clarkston (314) edged Lewiston by one stroke and Coeur d’Alene by two on the Par 71, 6,100 yard course.

Sandpoint’s next meet is at the Post Falls Invitational on April 9.
