Four Top Dogs earn first place medals
SANDPOINT — Top Dog wrestlers Matt Lockey, Adam Weindl, Scout Nash and Casey Randles combined for a 14-2 record at Saturday’s Top Dog Challenge Freestyle Wrestling Tournament at Sandpoint Middle School.
Nash, Randles and Lockey each earned first place medals for the host Top Dogs. Also collecting wins and advancing to the podium for the Top Dogs were Josh Travers and Canyon Nash.
Competing in a field that included four state placers, Lockey, a junior, secured four pins, his only loss coming to Washington state placer Cameron Schlotter. Because of points accrued, however, Lockey was awarded the championship.
Fellow Bulldog and state placer Adam Weindl secured three technical falls and a pin to finish second.
Sandpoint Middle School wrestler Scout Nash relied on cat-like quickness to post multiple victories on his way to a first place finish. Fellow Bullpup Casey Randles extended his streak of pins, having secured 10 in his last 10 matches.
Also competing for the Top Dogs on Saturday were Alec Bushell, Brock Kluver, Brandon Carlin, Tyler Brown, Chris Bunty, Nolan Randles and Lewis Dunton.
A group of Top Dogs will head to Billings, Montana to compete at the Montana Open. The tournament, which draws more than 1,000 competitors from across the region, will be held at Metra Park on Saturday and Sunday.
