Three Top Dogs make podium at Montana Open
SANDPOINT — Top Dog wrestlers Josh Travers, Casey Randles and Scout Nash each advanced to the podium at the 2012 Montana Open recently. This year’s record field included more than 1,200 athletes from across the Western United States.
Travers, a sophomore at Sandpoint, bounced back from an injury default to post three consecutive victories on his way to a second-place finish in the 15U, 200 pound class.
Nash, a seventh grader, posted three wins to finish sixth in the competitive 12U division, 82 pound class. Two of Nash’s wins came by fall with the other by way of technical fall.
Competing in the 15U, 130 pound class, Randles posted seven wins against one loss. Randles’ lone loss came against Montana high school state champion Mitch Weber of Forsyth. The SMS seventh grader avenged the loss later in the tournament with a hard fought 2-0 overtime win to finish second.
Also posting wins for the Top Dogs were Canyon Nash and Lewis Dunton.
Competing in the small team division, with 15 wrestlers or fewer, Top Dog finished 8th out of 24 teams.
