Strong relays propel Bulldog girls to 4A title

LEWISTON — A dominating showing in the relays helped the Sandpoint girls win the team title at the 4A Region 1 track and field championships on Friday at Lewiston High School.

Mary Aylward, Lily DeAragon, Emma Weme, Kennedy Kindred, Shayna Kluver and Cymbre Martin teamed up to win the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400, qualifying all four relay teams to state next week.

Weme also won the 400, Aylward was second in the 100, DeAragon second in the 400, Sydney Foster second in the 1,600 and Maddie Suppiger was second in the 100 hurdles to lead the Bulldog girls on the second and final day.

Paul Hill cleared 12-10 to win the pole vault, Todd Pays won the discus and Sam Levora won the 1,600 to lead the Bulldog boys team. Chris Turnbull was second in the 100, Grant Kennaly was second in the 400, Matthew Burgstahler was second in the 800 and Tim Prummer, Jon McCormick, Kennaly and Burgstahler teamed up to win the 4x400 relay to punch their ticket to state.

The state track meet starts Friday in Boise.
