Mess inherited from Democrats, not GOP
When he became president on Jan. 22, 2009, Barack Obama was quick to blame Republicans for the ensuing financial crisis despite the fact that the 110th Congress, which took office on Jan. 3, 2007, was controlled by the Democrats. It was Jan. 3, 2007, when Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.
When Chris and Barney took the helm of our nation’s financial ship of state, the Dow was at 12, 621, gross domestic product was growing at 3.2 percent per year, gas was $2.18/gallon and the unemployment rate was 4.6 percent; after a record 52 straight months of job growth. It was 15 months later, on Chris and Barney’s watch, when the economic meltdown occurred.
Obama “inherited” a mess, alright, but not from the Republicans.
