Sandpoint falls to Coeur d'Alene in NILL lacrosse championship
COEUR d’ALENE — A stellar defensive effort by the Sandpoint Club Lacrosse team kept the game close, but Coeur d’Alene did just enough to claim a 5-4 win in the North Idaho Lacrosse League championship game on Friday at Lake City High School.
Carson Paull tallied two goals, Kevin Woodruff added a goal and an assist, Parker Davis found the back of the net and Riley Hadeen stopped eight shots in goal for Sandpoint (9-5), which finished second out of seven teams in the NILL.
Sandpoint head coach Matt Schreiber knew it was going to be a one-goal game, and praised the effort and play of the defense, one of only two teams all season to hold Coeur d’Alene under 10 goals.
“I’ve never seen a team that has this kind of positive chemistry,” said Schreiber. “You would think every one of these guys was best friends.”
Nick Desantis had 13 saves for Coeur d’Alene (13-3), which advances to the state championship match next Saturday against a team from the Boise area at the University of Idaho.
