SANDPOINT — Sandpoint seniors Maggie Kirscher, Kayanna Quigley and Laurel Presser were each named to the 4A All-Inland Empire League team, as voted on recently by league coaches.

Kirscher, a shortstop and pitcher, provided the thunder in the order, leading the Bulldogs with a .418 average, 16 RBIs and nine extra base hits, while rarely getting cheated at the plate.

Quigley brought a wealth of energy and versatility to the field, excelling at both catcher and shortstop, no small feat for a left handed player. She hit .348, and led the Bulldogs with 16 runs and a healthy .569 on base percentage.

Presser used her plus speed to lead the Bulldogs in stolen bases and provide a presence on the basepaths, while hitting .304 and scoring 13 runs from the leadoff spot. She was solid defensively at second base, and also played some catcher when needed.

Sandpoint head coach Derek Dickinson on what each player did to earn a spot on the all-league team.

n Kirscher: “Maggie was one of the best hitters in the league this year, bar none. She definitely had a ton of respect from the entire league’s coaches and pitchers. She has that hard-to-coach quality of being able to flat out drive the ball. She is that rare athlete that can excel at three sports at a high level.”

n Quigley: “Kayanna was our little lightning bolt. She played three positions this year at a high level, including catcher, which made her an easy choice for the utility spot on the all-league team. Her hitting improved light years from last season and she was the absolute quintessential two spot hitter in the lineup. I will miss her enthusiasm and passion for the game.”

n Presser: “Laurel had a solid year from the lead-off position. She also improved a ton hitting this year with her slap game. She had the triple-threat game working with her ability to slap, drop down a drag bunt or swing away and put one over the infielders’ heads. When she got on she was an absolute threat to steal bases with her blazing speed. I wish I had her back to see what another year would do for her offensively and defensively.”
