In poor economy, sales tax unwise
In these times of economic uncertainty now is not the time for a new tax.
Yes, I know it is just a small tax and it will be for only five years. But when I go shopping downtown and see all the vacant and “for sale” store fronts, it tells me not yet.
I know that the grandstands need rebuilding, but what’s wrong with user fees for the people who use the field? I would be happy to pay a couple more dollars for my tickets for the Festival at Sandpoint. Yes, we would not get it right now but I am sure we could get by.
After working for a small city for 28 years I have learned that there will always be a worthy cause for new taxes. Sidewalks need replacing, land needs to be bought for trails and bike paths, there will always be something.
