Sandpoint U13 Avalanche cap undefeated season
SANDPOINT — Sandpoint’s U13 Avalanche girls soccer team went 10-0 this fall season, giving up only four goals while scoring 48 against their opponents.
Coached by Julie Pitre, the club had solid consistent performances from the first game to the last. Playing most games with no substitutes due to injury or illness, this scrappy bunch held their own and never gave up.
“The heart they played with all season was admirable,” according to team manager Annie Shaha.
Forwards and midfielders for the season were primarily played by Shelby Flathers, Amy Edwards, Casey Shaha, Claire Shaha, Hadley Marshall, Helen Merwin, Lily Hartman and Stephanie Huang. Jennie Maddux, Colleen Kindred, Cydni Lewis and Lizzy Garza played defenders and sweepers. Julia Stites played goalie much of the season.
“We started the season with barely enough players, then scrambled to find our coach,” said Shaha. “Thankfully, our parents and players stuck together and the end result was worth it.”
Coach Pitre said the team was a pleasure to coach, always taking direction seriously and enjoying the sport and playing as a team.
