Thoughts on elections, voting and candidates

| November 13, 2012 8:00 PM

Response to Dennis Shellhorn’s letter (Daily Bee, Oct. 18.

Mr. Shellhorn thought my letter was an attack on President Obama. He misunderstood my intention, partly because the letter said voting for “a leader.” This letter was not singling out one leader, but was meant to get people thinking about all the leaders for which they vote.

Any candidate who will not stand for our nation’s symbols does not have a heart for the people or this nation. Though saluting the flag isn’t a major factor, it reveals the loyalty of that person.

Our nation has three governing branches, placed as a check and balance against anyone turning our government into a dictatorship. Our forefathers planned this to protect us against power mongers. Abusing the privilege of Executive Order speaks of trying to dictate, regardless of who does it.

Leaders are to protect the rights and welfare of the people, not to improve their own financial or political situations.

Reducing our military force reduces our ability to defend our nation.

Just because past politicians sneak things through on bills, doesn’t make it right! Also, taking the money from Social Security was illegal. This is deception and dishonesty. Leaders who do this make corrupt examples.

Apologizing for accidental destruction in a foreign country is appropriate. Apologizing for defending our nation is not.

The Bible says God curses any nation that battles against Israel.

Voting for an unqualified person is not wise.

Voting against education and family is hindering our nation’s future.
