Kailang leads Cats in loss
PRIEST RIVER — Dimi Kailang scored 20 points to go along with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals for Clark Fork, which stuck with the host Spartans in the first half but fell 59-41 in a nonleague girls basketball matchup Tuesday at Spartan Arena.
Clark Fork (0-1) led early in the contest and missed a fastbreak lay-up at the buzzer that would have tied the game heading into the half.
“The girls did really well, being as shorthanded and young as we are. We held our own at times and Gary (Stewart) helped us out by playing his entire team,” Cats coach Dexter Vogel said. Adding, “Dimi is an exceptional athlete and did a really good job of playing under control tonight.”
Jill Weimer nearly recorded a double-double, nine points and ten rebounds, to go along with five steals for the Priest River (2-0), which came up with 19 takeaways in the game.
Karly Douglas knocked down three three-point shots and led all Spartans with 10 points. Kelsey Bradbury and Kelsie Fink each scored eight for the Spartans, who host Sandpoint on Nov. 27
“It was nice to play everybody and see where we’re coming along and see what kind of chemisty different groups have together,” Priest River coach Gary Stewart said. Adding, “Give credit to Clark Fork. They really came out and played tough.”
Lyndsie Kiebert added nine points for the Wampus Cats, who host the Northstar League Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
Clark Fork opens the tournament Friday night at 6 p.m. against Kootenai.
