Day honors veterans, not wars' protestors
Re: Harvey Pine’s recent letter to editor:
The protest of my generation’s war was also a protest of those who fought it. It was not a volunteer military. Upon turning 18, most young men had been drafted by their country and then to return home to be treated as the enemy does not make me respect now nor did it then the war protesters.
There are no shortage of heroes from the Vietnam era and they were all wearing the uniform of the United States military. Many of them have their names on killed in action monuments, including the Vietnam Memorial Wall in our nation’s capitol. And for the families of the 1,600-plus still listed as missing in action or prisoners of war from Vietnam and Southeast Asia, to recognize war protesters on the same day and in the same breath as veterans is an affront to them all.
