Quartet shine at swim meet

KALISPELL, Mont. — Four Sandpoint Sharks brought home trophies and a host of others won heats, capping a successful swim meet recently in Kalispell, Montana.

Leading the way were Kate Matlosz, who won four events and placed second in three others to win the high point trophy for 13-14 year-old girls.

Payton Bokowy won seven events and placed second in two others, dominating the field en route to the high point trophy for 11-12 year-old girls. She dropped four seconds off her personal best and quailified for the age group sectional meet for the 13 year-old category.

Emily Deitz won three events and was second in five others, claiming the second place trophy in the 11-12 year-old division, and Sarah Casey won twice and was second twice to win the second place trophy for girls eight year-old and under.

Carolina Munce, Deitz, Logan Sanborn and Bokowy won both the 200 medley and free relays in the 11-12 year-old division. Casey and Briana Brosnahan had big time drops and exciting races in their heats.

“Overall, the kids swam very well,” said head coach Mike Brosnahan. “It was a fun swim meet and we really had a good time swimming with new competition in Montana.”

Also notching top five finishes for the Sharks were Sanborn (1st in 200 fly and 400 IM, 2nd in 50 free), Emily Hieronymus (3rd in 50 back, 5th in 50 fly and 200 free), Kate Bokowy (4th in 200 free, 5th in 50 free and 100 IM), Catherine Brenner (4th in 200 breast, 5th in 500 free) and Munce (5th in 200  back).
