Man jailed for stabbing
SANDPOINT — An Oldtown man was arrested Saturday night for stabbing another man and then texting about the incident.
Curtis Wayne Bunch is charged with aggravated battery. Judge Barbara Buchanan set Bunch’s bail at $10,000 during an initial court appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court.
A preliminary hearing on the felony offense is pending.
The alleged victim was cut on the left side of his neck and/or torso, according to court documents.
Neither Bunch nor the alleged victim were forthcoming to law enforcement about what precipitated the stabbing, although alcohol was apparently a factor.
The alleged victim, who was described as belligerent and intoxicated, told investigators he was jumped by five skinheads while walking to a convenience store, but declined to elaborate. Bunch had to be awakened by law officers and was initially uncooperative enough to be charged with resisting and obstructing.
Bunch, 40, allegedly texted a photo of his bloodied hand and indicated in the message that he had stabbed somebody in the throat. The texts were allegedly sent to Bunch’s ex-wife, in violation of a no-contact order in Montana.
A bloody knife was recovered from Bunch’s pocket, although he told investigators it was from cleaning a fish.
