MULLAN — Mullan quarterback Wyatt Sadler accounted for all six of the Tiger’s touchdowns and 360 total yards, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Clark Fork Wampus Cats in a hard-fought 50-44 loss for the Tigers in their homecoming game.

Axel Anderson accounted for four touchdowns to lead the Wampus Cats to the season sweep over Mullan.

The Tigers (1-5, 0-3 NSL) came into the game looking for revenge after falling to Clark Fork 80-34 in the second game of the year.

The Wampus Cats (4-3, 3-2 NSL) were the first to draw blood when Zack Klein connected with Joey Hazinsky for a 37-yard touchdown pass. Mullan quickly answered back, as Sadler got his first touchdown of the day on a 63-yard run.

Clark Fork had a huge second quarter, outscoring Mullan 26-8 after being tied at 16-16, keyed by an Anderson 31-yard interception return.

But Mullan didn’t let a 18-point halftime deficit get them down. Sadler opened up the third quarter with a 28-yard touchdown run. The Wampus Cats answered back, gaining their largest lead of the game at 22 points going into the fourth quarter. Zack Klein hooked up with Nyk Jones on a 75-yard scoring strike, one of Klein’s three touchdown passes.

Mullan head coach Stetson Spooner said he was proud of the way the Tigers played and it was the best game his team had played all year.

“This is a team that destroyed us up in Clark Fork, so I’m proud of the way we fought tooth and nail from 22 points down,” Spooner said. “We already have one win, but this is the best game we have played this year.”

Hazinky and Klein led the way for the Wampus Cats, with Hazinsky rushing for 138 yards and Klein passing for 137. Clark Fork coach Brian Arthun called the Tigers a group of fighters, and added he was happy his team overcame adversity to keep the lead.

“Mullan showed a lot of heart out there,” Arthun said. “I’m just real glad we came away with the win.”

Clark Fork has a bye next week.
