Wampus Cats fall to Badgers in five sets
BONNERS FERRY — Senior Mariah Miller stuffed the stat sheet with six kills, 10 digs, three blocks and two aces, but it wasn’t enough as the 1A Wampus Cats dropped a five-set match to the 3A Badgers 25-18, 21-25, 18-25, 25-19 and 15-8 in nonleague volleyball Tuesday night at Bonners Ferry High School.
Lyndsie Kiebert added five kills and 11 digs, Annie Wurm 18 set assists and Autumn Wagoner four kills and six blocks for the Wampus Cats (10-9).
Clark Fork head coach Michelle Adams called it Wagoner’s best game of the season, and praised the noticeable improvement of the Badgers, who were swept by the Wampus Cats in the first meeting of the season. Adams praised her team’s defense in defeat.
“The defense was the best I’ve seen all year, just super scrappy,” described Adams of a match that could have gone either way. “The kills just weren’t there. We weren’t communicating and losing points to silly mistakes from not talking.”
Clark Fork now turns its attention to the district tournament, which starts on Oct. 19.
