Wallis qualifies for state swim meet in 200 meters

SANDPOINT — Shanna Crayne won the 50 free, Madison Contor the 100 free and Cassidy Story the 100 backstroke, leading the shorthanded Bulldog girls to a 64-56 loss to Post Falls in a swimming dual on Wednesday afternoon at the Sandpoint West Athletic Club.

“We had a couple of sick kids,” said Bulldogs coach Mike Brosnahan. “If they were here, we might have beat them. The kids are beat up because we’re getting ready for districts.”

Jacob Sweezy won the 200 free and the 100 breaststroke, posting time drops in both events, to lead the Bulldog boys, who lost 74-27 in the team standings.

Perhaps the performance of the night was turned in by Kaitlin Wallis, who beat her personal best by seven seconds to qualify for state in the 200 free.

“I was hoping, but I wasn’t expecting it,” said Wallis of hitting the state qualifying time. “It was just a good day.”

Other top five finishes for the Bulldogs were turned in by Alex Krames (2nd in 100 butterfly, 4th in 200 free), Genevieve Price (5th in 100 back and 200 free), Nikole Alamillo (3rd in 50 free, 4th in 100 back), Mary Kovalchuk (4th in 50 free and 100 free), Madi Ogle (5th in 100 free), Galen May (3rd in 100 breast) and Amanda Jordan (4th in 400 free).

Other top five finishes for the Bulldog boys were turned in by Calvin Aerni (2nd in 50 free and 100 breast), Clayton York (3rd in 100 back and 5th in 50 free) and Ben Reich (4th in 100 breast and 5th in 100 free).

The Bulldogs are at Clarkston on Saturday in the final tune-up before districts.
