SFD hosting open house
SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Fire Department is hosting an open house on Saturday.
“It’s for the community to know what their fire department does, to meet the firefighters and see what we do,” said Fire Capt. Michael Gow.
The open house at the fire station, 1123 Lake St., starts at 11 a.m. with a meet-and-greet session followed by a barbecue.
There will be a climbing wall and firefighter gear the public can try on. There will also be fire-prevention and volunteers booths, plus a hose target and ladder climb if weather permits.
Starting at 1 p.m., firefighters will conduct demonstrations on automobile extrication, rope rescues and hazard material response. The open house wraps at 4 p.m.
International Association of Firefighters Local 2319 union members will also be selling pink T-shirts to raise funds for Community Cancer Services in Sandpoint and awareness of breast cancer. The shirts are $15 and all proceeds benefit Community Cancer Services.
