Levora, Woodward claim titles

LEWISTON — Junior Sam Levora and sophomore Mikhaela Woodward each won regional championships, leading the Bulldog cross country team on Thursday at the 4A Region 1 meet at Hellsgate State Park in Lewiston.

Levora clocked a 16:15 and Woodward a 20:27, as each dominated their respective races on the 5K course to earn medalist honors. Also claiming medalist honors for the Bulldogs were Sydney Foster, who placed third, and Tim Prummer, who placed sixth.

The Bulldog girls finished second, which qualifies the whole team to go to state next weekend. Only Levora and Prummer will compete at state from the boys team.

“Sam and Mikhaela both ran great and made moves when they had to,” said SHS coach Matt Brass, lamenting the boys team missed out on qualifying by just two points. “I was proud of them, they all had good races, it was just cutthroat.”

Corrine McClelland won the JV girls race, with teammate Treva Nostdahl second and Lauren Orr third, while Allen Orr won the JV boys race, with teammate Andy McGinness second and Matthew Cloud third.

The state meet is next Saturday at the same Hellsgate course, which should provide a slight edge for the Bulldog runners.
