Klein passes Wampus Cats past Timberline
PLUMMER — All of quarterback Zack Klein’s completions went for touchdowns, as Clark Fork dominated Timberline 56-6 in nonleague football action Friday night at Lakeside High School.
Brandan Bowen and Axel Anderson each scored three touchdowns for the Wampus Cats (5-3), who scored early and often in a game that was called at half due to the 45-point mercy rule.
Klein finished 4-5 passing for 168 yards, hooking up with Anderson on scoring strikes of 80 and 52 yards, hitting Bowen for a 30-yard score and Joey Hazinsky for a six yard score.
Anderson finished with 132 yards receiving, Hazinsky added a 53-yard scoring run and Bowen returned a punt 53 yards for a score, as the Wampus Cats looked sharp coming off their bye week.
“I thought we had a great two weeks of practice, and worked on being more disciplined,” said Cats head coach Brian Arthun, whose team had no turnovers or penalties on the night.
The win sets up a pivotal league home game next Friday against Kootenai, where a win by the Wampus Cats could force a Kansas tie-breaker for the lone 1A Division II playoff berth.
“This was a great tune up for the showdown with Kootenai,” said Arthun. “It’s great to be playing for the playoffs in our last game.”
