Frazier qualifies for state

CLARK FORK — Sophomore Clark Fork cross country runner Megan Frazier qualified for state last Thursday, clocking a 22:33 to finish 9th overall in her classification at the regional cross country meet at Hellsgate State Park in Lewiston.

Desiree Westphal, a junior, finished 17th overall with a time of 24:31, as the Wampus Cats have only two runners competing this season.

“Megan is a natural runner, all year she’s been a contender,” said head coach Megan Olson. “They both felt the course in Lewiston was pretty hard.”

Frazier will compete in the state meet on Saturday on the same course, which Olson called sandy and tough to prepare for.

Olson is proud of the fact that while her team is small and new to the sport, the Wampus Cats have had a runner qualify for state every year of the program’s brief existence.

“All year we’re competing with 4A and 5A schools,” said Olson. “It’s neat, here’s this school of 70 kids, and they’re keeping up with the big dogs.”
