Jensen, Currie lead Thunder to soccer championship

SANDPOINT — Goalie Taylor Jensen posted a shutout and David Currie scored the only goal of the game to lead the Kootenai Thunder to a 1-0 win over the Oaks Academy in the Mountain Christian League soccer championships last weekend.

The Thunder came into the tournament as the No. 4 seed started off their quest for the title by beating Christian Center School 4-2 on Friday morning.

They followed that win by taking down the No. 1 seed Pullman Christian School Eaglesto advance to play Pullman Christian School Eagles, who had been undefeated in league play, beating them 2-1 to advance to the championship. The Thunder finished the season with a tidy 10-5 record.

Prior to the season-ending tournament, the Thunder beat House of Lord 3-0, getting goals from Taylor Jensen, Patrick O’Shea and Currie, with assists from Ben Bristow, Shayne Jensen and Jimmy Soderberg.

The Thunder also lost 3-2 to the Oaks in the final regular season meeting between the teams, getting goals from Bristow and O’Shea in the loss.
