Negotiations ongoing to repair depot

A response to Barry Gage:

Barry, I very much appreciate your and others’ interest in saving the depot.

A little over a year ago through the efforts of the city of Sandpoint, the Sandpoint Historic Preservation Commission and countless other persons, an agreement in principal was struck between BNSF (the owner of the building), Amtrak and the city of Sandpoint to ensure that the depot would remain in its current location, continue to provide rail passenger service and be rehabilitated using about $1 million which was contributed by ITD to BNSF in consideration of the impact of the byway.

During this last year, negotiations have continued between all parties with a conclusion to be announced in the near future. I would expect that by this time next year the depot will again be a functioning building and something the town can proudly point to as the last remaining building from the original townsite.
