Group announces political forum
There is a saying that people get the government they deserve. People on both sides of our perceived path for America, complain about how our country is being governed. But most make no effort in directing our politicians. I believe there is more work, frustration, and disappointments being an elected official than we mere citizens understand. No politician can please everyone, or in fact please anyone all of the time. Most politicians attempt to appease their constituents. However, this requires that we, the constituents, educate ourselves. This can only be accomplished by our involvement, and requires we read, listen, discuss, and participate by making our elected officials aware of what we expect their voting records to reflect. During the political forums in our latest primary, I observed that it was the same people attending every event. How was everyone else getting their information? I found many people vote for the most advertised name. That’s simply the power of advertisement. The more money, the more signs and advertisement, and yet we complain about the money spent on campaigns.
There will be a political forum on Oct. 2. It will be a question-and-answer program on the ideology of the left versus the right. It is an attempt to get more local interest and involvement.
The goal is to make it as evenly balanced as possible, and to have interesting speakers from both sides. It is being limited to four panel members for each side, and 20 audience attendees from both sides. The attendees are on a first-call RSVP system. If this is interesting to you, please contact Mike Nash at 255-5859.
